2012 Weegmüller Herrenletten Alte Reben Grauer Burgunder Spätlese Trocken

Simply Magnificent Dry Pinot Gris Full of Complex & Characteristic Tones

This grauburgunder (pinot gris/grigio) is an exceptional specimen for the Weegmüller winery. It is made from hand harvested grapes grown on the vineyard tract called Herrenletten which is a classified “premier” tract (“erste lage”) and regarded by some as the best lage in Haardt in the Pfalz. As the label tells the drinker, the grapes were grown on older vines (“alte reben”) and harvested late (“spätlese”). It is a beautiful clear medium lemon in appearance with profound exotic fruit on the nose with excellently integrated alcohol (a feat considering it is 14.5%!). This wine’s complexity goes into every characteristic tone of a premier pinot gris including light biscuit, floral perfume, almond, mineral and spice. The time to experience all the subtle expressions of this wine is ample thanks to its long finish. This wine is simply fantastic.
