2011 Mayschoss-Altenahr XII Trauben Spätburgunder

Simply Magnificient Ahr Pinot Noir of Dark Cherry & Velvet with Oak Spice

This spätburgunder (pinot noir) is called “XII Trauben” which means “12 grapes” and it is simply inspiring. The grapes used to make this wine were harvested at an extreme ripeness of 99 degrees öchsle which enables this wine’s luxurious black velvet mouth feel. Slate and clay soil give it a distinct character of elegant minerality to accompany its profound fruit and the result is pure harmony. It was partially fermented in new oak barrels and matured in new barriques to develop its blissful medium-low tannin character throughout its entire long finish. It has the fruit of figs, prunes, and dark fruit, spices of pepper and cinnamon and even delicate animal tones to substantiate its award as the first place dry pinot noir for the Ahr valley in 2013. This is a super spätburgunder.
