Silvaner (/zil-fahn-ǝr/) is a white grape varietal most common in the Rheinhessen, Franken, and Pfalz German wine regions (“anbaugebiete”/on-bou-gi-bēt-ǝ/). It typically produces light to intense yellow colored wine with medium acidity and light to medium body. It’s characteristic flavor profile is juicy pineapple, lemon, roasted almonds, caramel, honey, and blossom tea. With a couple years of aging, silvaner wine often develops candied pineapple, mango, honey and nougat tones. Earth tones are also common depending on the planting.
